Penat sangat hari ni :(

Entry today is divided into 2 parts. One is dedicated for my OSCE for my reference and for my juniors' reference in the future. Gagaga...

I was up at 6. Slept quite late the nite before as I was still busy panicking skimming through the notes. Seriously, I was so playful and didn't really prepare for this exam.

10.25am I left home to CUH. berdegup jantungku hanya tuhan yang tahu~~

10.45am met Jo Lin and we waited at Prosthetic teaching lab

11.35am our turn, finally

My first ever so-called OSCE

19 stations. 2 resting station.

Stations for dental material includes detecting error in alginate and zinc phospate mixing. Then there was statements on zinc phospate, fuji IX and zinc hydroxide cements. Menjawab soalan ini buat beta rasa seperti tidak pernah belajar bahasa Inggeris langsung kerana adalah begitu sangap sekali mahu mengeluarkan ayat2 procedure dalam bahasa Inggeris..suckaaaa....harap2 guru2 saya memahami ayat yang berbaur belitan itu +__+

Behavioural Science stations - ada 2. we have to fill in the blanks...of which I totally screwed. Big time, like...blanks = blank. One on chronic pain..another one on Biopsychosocial behaviour model. Gaaahh....big time suckerrrr

Ethics and Law. Dr KD was such a big help. He was in one of the 2 law stations and kept on giving hints. You are the best Dr KD! First station was on confidentiality issue on a pilot, who has an epileptic fit. Second case was kinda complicated. A girl, who is pregnant asked me the dentist to keep her pregnancy a secret, and the one who is responsibled behind the pregnancy is her mother's boyfriend who is HIV positive and just recently released from the jail. Like..waddaaaa...

There was a station on scaling instrument. Scale upper left 7, mesially and subgingivally. Gua hentam je guna Gracey curette 11/12. Gaaa...harap2 betul

One station on cross infection control...on the protective barriers and how to dispose the waste used..Okay so she laid down the things on the table. Ada cotton swap, ada the tools, cup, glove, mask etc..

One station on library wtf. Questions on STEPS TO SET UP LIBRARY RECORD. HOW TO SEARCH A BOOK. HOW TO DOWNLOAD A JOURNAL. wtf wtf wtf!!!

One station on smoking cessation. Tak sempat nak betulkan jawapan. Warghhh tension. Effect after quitting smoke. another one tak ingat..

One station on TOOTHBRUSH skali lagi wtf. and another one on needle stick injury. Dua-dua gua hentam dengan jayanya. Gaaaahhhh I'm sooooooooooooooo dead!!!!

One station on CPR. Upon stepping into the room then only I realised..OMG IT'S HIM. THE ONE WHO HATES US THE DENTAL STUDENTS SO MUCH!!!! gaaaaahhhh....time tu baru gua cuak gile beb. But thank God he was nice today. Tak PMS kot...gagaga...and I was lucky the dummy's chest rose up when I urmm..did the CPR. It wasn't during our practice y'know that's why I'm so scareddddd...

Okay the highlight of all - the communication station. Situation : a lady, has appointment at 9. Reached clinic since 845am but only get to meet the dental student (me) at 1030am (delayed 1.5 hours) So she was one angry patient who didn't stop blabbing on how angry she was. Mind you this is my first OSCE ever. Dah tentu gua kalut kan. I kept on apologizing..Reka cerita baekkkk punya. Siap kata ada power cut kat lab lah. Communication breakdown between receptionist ngan dental team lahh...wahhhh..pastu tak abes kata sorry sorry sorry...gagaga....cuak gilllerrrr..

At 1pm our torture finally ended.

Jusssttttt nice...

Ahaa...right after we bought our ticket, our beloved Dr NR (module coordinator) posted the clinical attachment timetable. It ends on 25th of June, just nice a day before we depart home.

Actually the ticket was bought with the thought of skipping the clinical attachment for 1-2 weeks but heyyyy guess what, we are on schedule bebeyh!

My session would be mostly on Wednesdays and Thursdays. And the sessions are rotated between Restorative and Dental Surgery. So basically I have FIVE FREAKING FREE DAYS in a week throughout that month. What the hellokitty am I gonna do babe?? What the hellokittykittykat???????????? Orang semua dah balik and here I am alone. And I don't even have a place to stay yet....

Okay okay maybe at that time I have more money than I have now. So I guess I can go anywhere from Friday until Tuesday. Every week. Bohooo..loser. dahlah sowang sowang T_________T

So anyone, just anyone....if u have any interesting plans from 2nd of June til 25th of June, please, I wanna tag along. Kasihanilah daku ini..Easter nan ado berpoya, kita joli summer pulaaaaaaaaaa..

Arghhh bitter ah jadi dentistry student nehhhhhhhhhhh...

Excuse me, but I can't help but to feel excited (or jakun, or whatever u call it) with the short snowing moment we had just now.

Because Cork, just don't snow. Like that. That "heavy". Not that I know of. Coz I've been here only for 2 years and a half. So I don't know.

And it's been snowing all over UK and some part of Ireland. But it's not cool. At least not this week. Not cool at all. Flights have been cancelled. I really need to escape from where I am now. I just need it. Desperately.please :(


Moving on......

So today we had the curettes. There are 2 types of curettes, the Universal one and the Gracey curettes. There are used interdentally (celah2 gigi?) to remove calculus. The ones we tried today had 3 different sizes/angles 5-6 for anterior teeth, 11-12 for molar teeth, mesially and 13-14 for molar teeth distally.


While last week we had the Williams Probe. It is used to measure depths of periodontal pockets. Because in health, your periodontal pockets aren't supposed to be so urm..deep? So there are markings on the working end to measure the depth, ranging from 1-10mm.

Hari Isnin hari apa adik2? (Plus, Happy 9th Anniversary~)

A dentist needs :

- a good sitting posture. Most of the day of a dentist will be spent on the chair looking upon the oral cavity so a good posture will ensure u won't need to hire a masseuse constantly.

- a good hand-to-eye coordination so u won't end up tearing the soft tissue of the oral cavity of the patient or hurting the patient lah in general.

So what happened if the student-dentist sakit ketiak and sakit pinggang while having her periodontal practical session?

Today we played(?) with the excavator. Excavator is used on the surface of the teeth (either buccally(rahang atas& bawah menghadap pipi), lingually (rahang bawah menghadap lidah) or palatally (rahang atas menghadap lelangit), not the occlusal surface la) to remove tooth decay ka..calculus ka..anything foreign lah kire2nya on the tooth.

Last week we had the sickle scaler. This one is used interdentally (celah2 gigi) and subgingivally (bawah2 sket).

Moving on....

Happy 9th Anniversary SMSS 0004! I have always been in a love-hate relationship with this batch. But deep down inside me, I love all of us with all my heart. Tempat jatuh lagikan dikenang, ape tah lagi tempat bermanja...bluwekkkk..hahahahhaha...

Walaupun ade orang bitter dengan gwe....aaaaaahhh..let bygone be bygone aa. Growing up process is very challenging, I know. Criticism is painful, I know. I have apologized and I did my part sudah...The rest I leave it to u to decide okayyy?

To the rest of my batch (whether u read this or not), let us grow up and be someone yang berguna pada agama, bangsa dan negara. Bukan ayat cliche biasa tapi inilah kebenarannya. Let's take a further step up to be a better man/woman. We have to start getting involve with this world. Ada banyak benda dalam dunia ni yang menanti kita mengubahnya. Know our priorities. MLM Business/segala whatnots business/love life VerSus studies, which one will bring us up and which one will take us down? Or better, macammana nak kasi dua2 seimbang supaya kita tak terus tenggelam dan terkebelakang?

We have made our records that can be proud of. And now it's the time for us to start making more and more achievements so one day we can go back and torture the junior dekat dewan makan dengan ucapan2 penuh semangat like we used to hear back then. hhihihihiih...no seriously...marilah menuju kejayaan (familiar tak? 5 kali sehari diseru niii :P)

Hari Isnin hari saya praktikal bermaen bersama patung-patung

sekali lagi, bukan saya. BUKAN SAYA!

Hari ini saya maen patung lagi. Tiap-tiap Isnin saya maen patung. Jadi ingat, kalau hari Isnin, mesti entry patung. Sebab saya excitedteruja main patung daripada membaca buku tentang Neuroanatomy...atau Neurophysiology...atau Biochem..atau Pathology..atau Pharmacology..atau Embryology. Sebab bila main ngan patung baru orang kata "haaa...baru betul dentist main gigi-gigi" takdelah orang tanya "ehhhhhh....kenapa kau belajar itu ini..kenapa kena tahu itu ini.."


Harini saya belajar cara memegang alat-alat yang digunakan oleh doktor gigi. Saya belajar menyesuaikan jari-jemari (bukan azlan jamhari.lol) memegang alat-alat tersebut. Cara nya dinamakan "modified pen grasp"/ubahsuai genggaman pen? seperti gambarajah dibawah :

jari ibu dan telunjuk memegang bahagian atas (bahagian memegang). Jari hantu memegang bahagian antara bahagian bekerja dan bahagian memegang. Jari manis direhatkan digigi-gigi berdekatan gigi yang sedang dicungkil.Kenapa jari manis direhatkan atas gigi? Supaya pegangan lebih kemas dan jari-jemari tak cepat letih. Jari kelingking sepatutnya dikelepetkan tapi saya tak boleh kelepetkan nanti jari manis ikut sekali. Eh cuba anda buat...kelepetkan jari kelingking tanpa diikuti degil oleh jari manis. Boleh tak? Eh rasa aneh la taip jari banyak2 kali.

Saya juga belajar arah duduk ketika sedang mencungkil gigi. Kalau di bahagian rahang bawah/atas kedudukan berbeza, rahang kiri/kanan berbeza, bahagian mengadap pipi/lidah@langit2 berbeza. Semua ada kedudukan tersendiri! Cara menggunakan lampu untuk pencahayaan juga berbeza di bahagian berbeza.

Seronok juga rasanya bermain dengan jari-jari dan gigi-gigi ini. Harini saya kurang bimbo sebab sudah reti menggunakan butang-butang pada kerusi. Tahniah kepada diri sendiri!

Hari itu sewaktu di London saya bertemu dengan dua kakak doktor gigi yang melanjutkan pelajaran di London. Seronok rasanya bertukar-tukar pengalaman. Kakak Ema kata sehari kena cabut beratus-ratus gigi. Penat katanya asyik mencabut gigi sampai jadi letih. Tapi awal-awal takut-takut sikit. Yelah, Kakak Ema pesan awal2 kena rajin2 bertanya. Juga penat katanya dengan panggilan panggilan kecemasan/on-call. Haa..siapa kata doktor gigi tiada on-call (padahal baru tau)

Hwaa..rakan-rakan sudah mula berbincang tentang pembelian tiket pulang ke Malaysia sewaktu musim panas. Saya sedih kerana :

a) saya tiada duit. tiada duit saya. duit saya tiada. jangan kata tiket pulang ke Malaysia, tiket bas ke Galway pun belum tentu ada! kasihan kasihan. tidak sabar menunggu akhir bulan ketika elaun dimasukkan...ohhhh..

b) saya tidak pasti tarikh patut pulang. jadual praktikal adalah sehingga 12 Julai. tapi saya mahu pulang awal. Mahu! Mahu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Argh bercerita tentang pembelian tiket pulang buat saya rindu Malaysia. Nasib tempohari dah makan sambal paru dan ikan keli. *sob sob*

First day of school for the year 2009 (rasa macam baru masuk darjah 1 Jasa pulak)

Salam all..

After a long 3 weeks break...I'm finally going to school again *sigh* I felt a bit awkward though. To wake up early and to see those faces I haven't seen for quite a long time. *sigh sigh sigh*

Today is my first day of practical. I guess Dentistry students in UCC are a bit slow than other Dentistry students in terms of practical and clinical etc. Our friends in UK, I8ndia and Indonesia have been doing hands-on thingy since their first year okayh! (-_-!)

Okay back to the story..Today we learned basic things like advices on oral hygienes and how to set up the mannikin (or the mannequin?) Mannikin ni is a dummy lah kire-kirenye..

My mind were lagging all day long as I am still in my holiday mood. Ala-ala jetlag tapi bukan..heh. Our tutor did explained how to set up the mannikin. Which button to press, how to pull off the jaw etc but I just couldn't absorb the infos. Terasa bimbo tahap sembilannnnnnnnnn. I panicked a bit in the beginning and luckily Jo Lin was there to help me with stuff. NAK KELUARKAN KEPALA PATUNG PUN FAILED MACAMMANA NAK JADI DENTIST.

Hurm hurm..

Today I called the service centre. As expected, she said it'll cost around 700eu to repair the cracked screen. Mak oihh 70eu pun belum tentu ada sekarang..apatah lagi 700eu. A new macbook will cost me around 900eu. There is another option which is to replace the screen by myself but it's kind of complicated. A new screen will only cost me around 85eu. Arghh dilemma dilemma..Or should I buy a new un-Apple laptop? Honestly, I'm comfortable with Apple laptop sudah despite the hassle I went through earlier to get use to it. Oh by the way for the time being, I'm using someone (spare?) laptop. Thanks a lot!

Oh and did I tell u that I'm a beer addict? Yes I am..It has been a while that I tried to keep away from the beer.

But recently I found out it was sold in one of the Asian shop here..And I just couldn't resist the temptation..I'm reverting to my addiction.....

Alah korang dentist je pun...

Yesterday's morning during our lecture at Dental School of CUH, Kamil told me he met a guy.

Tak..bukan bukan...Kamil straight la dier ada girlfren.

The guy was on a wheel chair, and his face was urm..what should I say..terribly bruised and he was on his way to the dental hospital. I think he's the same guy I met 2 weeks ago but I didn't know he was going to have his dental treatment. What would you expect kan, a guy, on a wheel chair, face terribly bruised but ended up on the dental chair having his treatment.

Which triggered us to think, what IF, one day we are facing the same patient. Sure nervous gile..

And which brings me to the subject of my post today = Alah korang dentist je pun.. "Come on, u guys are just dentists"

Being the minorities, often I was asked why did I learned upper limb, embryology, heart, kidney, etc etc despite the fact that one day I'll end up concentrating only one part of the body ie. the oral cavity (that's what people think the ONLY thing dentist does. Main gigi je kerjanya~) Truthfully before this I don't know how to answer but I know there must be some reason why UCC put us through 5 hell of years learning most parts of the body and its systems under the course of dentistry. But today, I can finally figure out some answers..

During a dental checkup, you bring yourself, which consist of your whole body to the dental clinic. You don't get to opt to leave your rotator cuff muscles, pubic symphysis, or your heart back home simply because the oral cavity is a part of your body and the parts of your body don't just detach and reattach themselves impurposedly. Hence, when we, the dentist (fine.....the future ones) are treating you, the whole body and its systems are within our responsible. Any impairment of your health condition are of our concerns. Eventho we can't fix it, we can avoid from messing up with it.

Prior to dental treatment, we need to get your medical history. Whether you are diabetic, athmatic, has high blood pressure, your cardiovascular conditions,any allergies to anaesthetic or medicine..all things needed to be told to cause certain cases may need extra precautions. For example (From my readingla -gua baru 2nd year babe. But dont be deceived, gua tak rajin. Search pun sebab nak tulis this post muahahaha)), people with rheumatic heart disease, they are recommended have a pre-antibiotics treatment.

Moreover, to some extent, a dentist can detect symptoms of disease from the abnormalities shown in your oral cavity. Hence, there is a need for a dentist to know bits and pieces of other body parts too to find the connection and to advice patient to get a treatment.

There was this one time, a friend of mine made a statement ".....you dentist only concern about those cranial nerves..." (as a respond of my statement u snobbish doctor don't underestimate us!) I wish we were. But sadly we don't. There are a lot of other things that we deal with.In anatomy, we also learned about heart, kidney, upper limb etc etc Even in physiology, we deal with cerebral cortex, limbic system, prefrontal cortex, learning, memory, and those bloody things that until now I couldn't understand!! (emo dah nak exam physio pastu tak paham2. hikhikhik. excuse me) So yes, anyone who used to think that dentist didn't know what rotator cuff muscle is (insider emo disini, hikhik...excuse me), HOI, I SPENT A PART OF MY LIFETIME STUDYING IT OK!

Now I feel like doing an entrance essay instead of blogging T___T

Anyway I'll be back with this topic when my knowledge is enough. Sorry if my justifications or explanations are too general but I hope it's enough to give u rough idea of what's life being dentist is all about. Some may only seen the aesthetic(braces, whitening etc etc) and physical (tooth extraction) effect of the job of dentist rather than a life-saving effect. I hope I may change this perception one day (cewwwwahhhhh~)

PEKAN: Johann Abraham Mohd Mustafa seems determined to make an impact with his birth.

First, his mother, Khairani Mat Sood, 38, was airlifted from a flood relief centre here to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan when she went into labour on Dec 24.

And now, Khairani has discovered that her 3.5kg baby who was born after 20 hours of labour has a unique feature -- a natal tooth on his lower gum.

"Many old people I've consulted said that it was a sign of good luck. Some also said that it was an indication that a prominent leader would come from this area," she said at her home in Taman Pelangkah here yesterday.

Johann is Khairani's sixth child.
Natal teeth or teeth present at birth are said to be rare and are found in one out of 3,000 newborns.

Well well..as much as the sign of good luck brought by the lil baby, the tiny winy teeth needed to be removed. They can be harmful to the infant as it may cause irritant and trauma to the tongue and may also be uncomfortable for nursing mother..huhu...

Anyway, if they are not removed, this may also cause problem to the other teeth punye eruption. Overcrowding probs smua...and they also needed to be taken with full care. Sebab baby tak pandai gosok gigi, so mommy la kena buat..haa kan dah tambah kerja~ No..u don't have to, literally BRUSH the teeth. Just some gentle wipes wud do good, I guess..

Tp takpe, kalau baby ni ade probs with their teeth, KAYELAH DENTIST! ahaha..joking k, JOKING..

P/S : In the mid of the struggle to keep awake during my anatomy lecture, one of my classmate's phone rang a POLYPHONIC TONE. Yeay! Ade geng!!
And, Praise be to Allah, with some McGyver tools plus Dexter's mind, si putih is able to send out text msgs again...
